How to apply to exhibit

It’s important that you read and familiarise yourself with the following information before applying to exhibit at the Skyway Gallery.

Anyone can apply to exhibit

In the first instance please send an email with some sample images that best represent the work to be shown to curator@skywaygallery.org
Please include a short outline of what your exhibition would be about, for example, whether you’re planning a solo exhibition, whether your’e an art group, school or collaborating with another artist etc. If you have a preferred date for your exhibition, please include this as well.

All applications will be reviewed by the Skyway Gallery curation team. Once a decision has been made you will be notified by email.
IMPORTANT: Please do not advertise or assume that your exhibition proposal has been accepted until you have received a confirmation email and a hire agreement has been completed. Skyway Gallery is a shared public space and therefore has guidelines as to what can and can’t be exhibited. All decisions on what artworks to be shown or what activities take place within the gallery are solely down to the discretion of the curation team.

What does it cost to hire the gallery?

The gallery costs £225 per week to hire with a minimum 2 week hire period. A 20% deposit is required at the time of booking. A sales commission fee is applied to all works sold whilst on exhibition at the gallery. The commission is 10%.

What is included in the hire fee?

In addition to the wall space the gallery has it’s own picture hanging system. We also have a number of floor standing plinths and covered showcases.

Once your exhibition is booked in we will market your exhibition through our instagram and facebook feeds. We’ll also add it to our Skyway Gallery website. Please supply some good quality images that best represent the exhibition and about 100 to 150 words about your exhibition.

What’s not included in the hire fee.

Any additional marketing such as poster production, invitations, brochures, press releases and advertising are the responsibility of the hirer. We can advise on these matters and provide you with the Skyway Gallery logo. It’s very worth while spending some time planning how you will let people know about your exhibition. 

Artists and exhibitors are responsible for insuring their own work whilst on display at the gallery. 

Hanging pictures

In order for pictures to be hung on our STAS hanging system, the frames must have 2 D-Rings securely attached to the back of the frame, (1 on each vertical side). Pictures without D-Rings cannot be hung. D-Rings can be purchased online or from most DIY stores. 

All pictures must be framed. Images in Clip Frames or just mounted onto foam core board unfortunately won’t be accepted.

Each artwork should be clearly labelled on the rear of the work with name of artist and name of the work. (please don’t use post-it notes for this!)

Creating your display information

Each piece of work that is to be exhibited needs to have a display label next to the work. These need to be created by the artist and printed out onto white paper then mounted onto 5mm foam core board. Please use the style and size shown in the image below.

It’s always helpful to know a little bit about the artists that are exhibiting and we would recommend that artists write a bit about themselves and what motivates them to make art. We would suggest writing enough to fill and A4 sheet. See the example shown.

The curator will fix these to the gallery wall.

IMPORTANT: exhibitors must not stick or glue these panels to the gallery wall, please leave this to gallery staff.
